Its’ origins have been lost, but every society in the world has its’ own versions of soup. This is particularly true for societies that live closer to the poles. Maybe it’s so popular in the colder climates because nothing warms you up on a cold winter day better than a delicious bowl of soup. Easy soup recipes are therefore readily available and most contain inexpensive ingredients. Most soup recipes are easy to make and the result is an excellent first course for many winter meals. One of the neat things is that a good bowl of soup can be a meal all by itself. A lot of people consider a bowl of soup and another side dish to be a complete lunch. In my family, if you got sick, mom would always bring you a hot bowl of soup. It always warmed us up and made us feel better and mom said that it was nice to use up the leftovers at the same time. We must have been sick a lot because mom said that it was fun to cook soup all the time and substitute her own ingredients. She said that substitutions didn’t matter as long as the soup tasted good.
