Filed under: Cooking, Food, Recipes, Quick and Easy, Gourmet - crunchy @ 7:49 am

Despite of our hectic schedule nowadays, and by the time we arrive at home, everyone’s clamoring for dinner and don’t have the time for you to spend an hour for cooking. Maybe your tired and probably don’t want to spend time either, instead you want to eat soon. Whatever, the reason, whoever is the designated cook probably doesn’t have a lot of time to prepare meals.

Menu planning is another key to success. Planning weekly menus allows you to take advantage of sales, saving you money and makes shopping quicker and easier. How many times have you come home and scanned the frig for dinner ideas? Chances are, you’ll end up wasting food in the end. You can also go out for pizza, but your budget is for the moment. You’ll pay for it next week. Or you can also buy ground beef is on sale, buy all that you need to make four batches of each. When you get home, divide the beef immediately. Make burger patties, sandwich them between sheets of waxed paper and freeze. While you’re doing that, fry the meat for the spaghetti, enchiladas or tacos in a large skillet, in batches as necessary in order to save money and time.

How About Some Easy Soup Recipes?

Filed under: Uncategorized, Cooking, Food, General, Recipes - crunchy @ 5:40 am

Its’ origins have been lost, but every society in the world has its’ own versions of soup. This is particularly true for societies that live closer to the poles. Maybe it’s so popular in the colder climates because nothing warms you up on a cold winter day better than a delicious bowl of soup. Easy soup recipes are therefore readily available and most contain inexpensive ingredients. Most soup recipes are easy to make and the result is an excellent first course for many winter meals. One of the neat things is that a good bowl of soup can be a meal all by itself. A lot of people consider a bowl of soup and another side dish to be a complete lunch. In my family, if you got sick, mom would always bring you a hot bowl of soup. It always warmed us up and made us feel better and mom said that it was nice to use up the leftovers at the same time. We must have been sick a lot because mom said that it was fun to cook soup all the time and substitute her own ingredients. She said that substitutions didn’t matter as long as the soup tasted good.

How to enjoy your own party with easy entertaining recipes

Filed under: Food, Recipes, Chocolate, Gourmet - crunchy @ 6:00 am

You should think first of all the kitchen conveniences and appliances we now have at our disposal. In the economic heydays, we used our bread makers, convection ovens and do-ahead recipes to make everyday family meals a stunning success. As an example, bread makers have ‘dough only’ settings, as well as bells which alert us to the proper time to add fruit, nuts or cheese. This great appliance gives you the wherewithal to produce artisan breads your guests will surely applaud, with just a few minutes of your time. As well as also for the Convection ovens are another handy appliance when you’re entertaining at home. You can roast a gourmet chicken dish in no time at all, with very little supervision required on your part. And likewise to do-ahead recipes, there are literally thousands of delectable dishes which may be prepared ahead of party day and are actually enhanced by sitting in the fridge, marrying seasons and flavors to perfection.

Well, entertaining at home used to summon up visions of long hours at the stove and last-minute preparations which left us worn out before the party ever began. Wanting to provide a top-notch meal for our guests seemed beyond our reach or reserves of energy. This is simply no longer the case.

Halloween Treats with Home Improvement Ideas Packaged in

Filed under: Candy, Food, Recipes, Snacks - crunchy @ 4:57 pm

Trick or treat time can be fun and educational. For example, you can find excellent reciped for edible snacks tucked into articles in nearly every niche like home improvements.

For example, here’s a recpie I found on a site where you could get Hurricane Socks and Abzorb Mats to absorb extra moisture in your home:

Cobweb Brownies

You can get everyone into the fun spirit of Halloween by baking up a batch of brownies covered with ‘cobwebs’. Doesn’t that sound inviting?

Ingredients:

Brownies

4 – 1 oz squares of unsweetened chocolate
3 eggs
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup butter
1 tsp vanilla extract

Icing

7 oz marshmallow cream
1 oz semisweet chocolate

Preparation:

In a 2-quart saucepan, dissolve the chocolate over a low heat and stir in the butter, warming until thoroughly melted. Remove from heat and blend in the sugar, mixing well. Allow the mixture to cool while you prepare the other ingredients.

Beat the eggs and then blend in the vanilla extract. Slowly sprinkle on the flour, stirring well. Then pour on the chocolate/butter mix and blend for 1-2 minutes.

Pre-heat the oven to 350F/175C.

While you’re waiting, pour the batter into a 13" x 9" x 2" baking pan. For easiest removal, you can spray some olive oil non-stick spray onto the pan first, but with a non-stick Teflon pan it usually isn’t necessary. Bake for 30 minutes. Test by inserting a toothpick and seeing that it comes out clean.

Remove from oven and pour the marshmallow cream over the brownies. To get very thin, spiderweb-like lines you can use a small-diameter cooking syringe. Break up the lines by melting the 1-oz of semisweet chocolate and dripping small blobs at the intersection of two lines of cream.

Allow to cool and you’re ready for treats!

So learn and eat  -and have fun! That works :)

Soul food recipes and the southern flavors

Filed under: Cooking, Ethnic, Food, Recipes, Cuisine - crunchy @ 7:30 pm

There is a branch of cuisine called soul food, that originated from the deep south during the days of slavery in USA. Back in those days, African slaves brought to America carried back with them some of their traditions and cooking cuisine from their native homelands. After a hard days work in the fields, slaves used to enjoy the companionship of each other by gathering around the evening meal. Soon, poor whites started adopting this cuisine, taught by the blacks. Added on by the influence of native american indian tribal cooking, and a whole branch of cooking gradually sprang up through the years, and reinforced by the civil rights movements of the 1960s, the term soul food was coined.

What are the characteristics of soul food?

It typically incorporates lots of grains, pork, potatoes and beans. The meals are meant to be appetizing and filling. Since soul food has its roots in humble, poor origins, most of the cooking involves refrying foods in deep oil or lard. Due to increasing health awareness, most soul food cooking today tries to make use of fresh vegetable oil and not refrying them. Also cooks have been testing with other meat alternatives like tofu, which may not be too puristic nor strong flavor-wise, but anyhow, a sign of the changing times. Soul food is marked by strong flavors and high content of protein and carbohydrates.

Nonetheless, soul food is today much in demand, and soul food recipes are highly sought after, especially among tourists who wish to taste some fine southern cuisine that represents the warm and distinct culture of the American south.
