Cape Cod Live Lobster Clambake,New England Tradition

Filed under: Food, Good Food, Gourmet, Seafood - crunchy @ 1:29 pm

Clambakes were first introduced by Native Americans a few hundred years ago. Today, they are known as New England Clambakes, since they were first introduced in the New England region. Spring is a great time to have a clambake, so celebrate with your loved ones today.

The original clambakes were done in a pit. The pit was dug and a layer of stones were placed on the bottom of the pit. Then a layer of clams, potatoes, lobsters, and corn husks were laid on top the hot stones with fresh seaweed separating the layers. In order to cook the fresh seafood and vegetables the Native Americans would make a huge fire in the pit, on top of the stones. After the fire was reduced to hot ash & embers they would then put the seafood on the very hot stones.

Fresh shellfish can be ordered from a variety of locations. There are two ordering alternatives for you for your nutritious and festive clam bake. Modern clambakes do not use these old fashioned cooking methods. Nowadays, most people use a grill, stove, or possibly a fire pit. This makes clambakes ideal for outdoor parties, and in particular for camping outings. They’re convenient and are easy to clean up after to boot. You can request the standard clambake, which has lobster, clams, chowder and also includes supplies. Or go for something called a super deluxe clambake, which has everything the standard clambake includes plus mussels and/or shrimp, or other fresh shellfish.

Most of the time, depending on the size of the gathering, people having a true clambake will go with a super deluxe clambake. The reason being that the added shellfish appeals to a wider section of party guests and they feed more people. That way everyone gets something that they can enjoy out of the clambake.

A clambake is a great idea to consider for your next party. Unprocessed fresh foods such as seafood and shellfish are especially healthy and nutritious. Clambakes are a unique and healthy alternative to many fast foods. This spring, why not think about throwing a classic American clambake for your family and friends? You can invite friends to have an adventure in your own backyard. Your guests are sure to be intrigued, and conversations will be lively. A clambake also naturally offers your guests a festive party atmosphere. This makes for a very special alternative to the traditional, and usually less nutritious party foods a host often makes available to partygoers.

Remember, a clambake can make any occasion something so memorable that people will be talking about for months!  All the fresh seafood delivered overnight will simply amaze your guests!

The first clambakes were made in a pit. The pit was dug and filled partially with a layer of stones. Native Americans would make a fire in the pit to be able to cook the fresh seafood and veggies. When the fire is reduced to only hot ash and embers, they’d put the seafood on some very hot stones.
