Creating Unique Gift Baskets

Filed under: Family, Food, General, Wine, Party Ideas - crunchy @ 6:17 pm

When I was growing up my parents didn’t have much money, but giving was a way of life in our household, it was practice regularly. My Dad and Mom work hard for everything we had and what they given us. My parents always gave us a unique gift basket, even though we thought we weren’t receiving a gift. Now I make sure everyone special is getting a gift and one way to be sure you can come up with something is to buy items when you see them on sale and store them until needed. That way I have a supply of things to give.

I enjoy create unique gift baskets for those I’m giving a gift to. Here’s when all the items I bought on sale and the after season sales I bought become to use. I think about the recipients, what his or her hobbies or what type personality they have and start to create a unique gift basket made especially for their individual taste.  I’ve try a mixture of items to create the gift basket. At times the basket or container was the main attraction and at times it was just a holder for the items I selected. One year I made my best unique basket creation, I gave this to a couple as a house warming gift. They love the entire house warming items in the basket, such as wine gift, candles, some cheese, so that their first night in their home would be a romantic evening. Creating a unique gift basket for those that are special to you is always as much fun to make as it is to give.

Make The Right Food And Wine Pairings

Filed under: Alcohol, Food, Wine - crunchy @ 10:18 pm

A classic dish that many of us can’t resist is lasagna. Pair this hearty classic with a hearty wine that offers a lot of rich taste as well as a velvety texture. I love to have a nice glass of Cabernet with any pasta dish that has a flavorful red sauce. This food and wine pairing is a winner every time.

Looking for something a little lighter? Maybe you might be in the mood for a grilled salmon with fresh dill. A great food and wine pairing is meaty seafood along with a nice crisp white. I love Riesling to pair with a dish like this but a Chardonnay that has a hint of apple in its flavor is a wonderful pairing for this lighter meal as well.

Can You Stop Drinking Alcohol?

Filed under: Alcohol, General, Health, Wine, Drinks - crunchy @ 12:50 am

whatever people say, alcohol is one of the most addictive drugs ever invented, and possibly the most dangerous. Alcohol abuse has been a problem for practically as long as alcohol has been around, and it is a worse problem than with any other drug. Many people struggle in vain for years to stop drinking alcohol, even as the drug destroys their bodies and minds. Drinking rehab is much more popular than any other sort of drug rehab program, and it will only keep growing.

Simply Wonderful Wine Hampers

Filed under: Cookies, Wine - crunchy @ 8:55 am

Hampers are gifts that are usually presented in a wicker basket. The act of giving a hamper has a long tradition in the Western world and, previously, was done as a noble act, using the hamper to deliver food and other home essentials to the poor. The basket the hamper was displayed in was also carefully chosen as it was a helpful household item that could be used and reused.

In modern times, Christmas Hampers have come to be less presents of essentials and more presents of small indulgences, such as wine hampers for example. An emphasis is placed on quality items such as gourmet jams, expensive chocolates, exotic coffee beans, fine wines and other expensive items that can be enjoyed as a treat and will store long enough for your special someone to take their time in using the item.

There has also been a mounting tendency to produce specialized Christmas Hampers - wine hampers that are full with a diverse range and types of wine, chocolate hampers and bread and cheese hampers. Hobby hampers are an even more modern development and are filled not with food but with handy and desired items to please gardeners or DIY enthusiasts, for example. The contents of a hamper are only limited by your imagination!

The flexibility of Christmas Hampers is why it makes such a perfect gift. They can be adapted to any person and can be filled with anything that would give pleasure to your special someone. When choosing the hamper you want to give, give careful consideration to what things your special someone wants - are they a wine lover? Then wine hampers are a great idea! Are they a food lover? Then fill the hamper with premium food items. Are they expecting a baby? Why not give them a hamper filled with useful baby items.

Christmas Hampers can be used for any event - for birthdays, for hens nights or bachelorette parties, for weddings, for anniversaries, for an expecting mom-to-be and, most popularly, for Xmas.

The Xmas hamper has become popular and, in an intriguing twist, people are buying Christmas hampers to use for themselves instead of as a gift for other people. Often crammed with luxury Xmas luxuries such as shortbread, chocolate, wine, Xmas pudding and even turkey, they are bought by individuals to be used over the holiday season. Many hampers are bought on a payment plan over the year and then used for the holiday season, helping people pay for the price of the loved Xmas luxuries needed during the Christmas period.

There are lots of businesses that concentrate in making hamper presents and lots of them can be found quickly and simply on the web. Many of them will have pre-packed hampers - such as wine hampers or food hampers - and some may allow you to modify a hamper and fill it with items of your choice. Many businesses will deliver your hamper, making it a convenient and thoughtful gift.

Of course, you don’t have to use a company to make a lovely hamper and it can be even more personal to make your own. When making a hamper, give careful thought to what they might like. Use helpful items and special items that your special someone may not know to buy for themselves, to make it even more considerate. UK hampers also work best when filled with items that won’t go off quickly, such as wine for wine hampers. If you do intend on packing in items that need to be refrigerated or will go off, then make sure the hamper is given as soon as possible and make sure your special someone knows that the items must be used quickly.

Choosing a Wine Cooler

Filed under: Alcohol, Wine - crunchy @ 9:59 pm

When you are looking for a wine cooler you are going to want to take a few things into consideration, namely the fact of how much wine you have to store.

After all, this is what is going to determine the size of wine cooler you are going to have to get, and so this is obviously one of the most important things that you have to consider.

You also want to think about where in your home you are going to keep the wine cooler, because if you are going to have it in the basement where no guests really see, for instance, then you will not have to worry so much about what the cooler looks like, whereas if you are making a focal point in the home or it otherwise is going to stand out somehow, then you should make sure it is aesthetically appealing and that it blends with the other existing décor.

Filed under: Wine - crunchy @ 8:32 pm

Choosing wine glasses is going to reflect both the best of the wine as well as your own personal taste.

You don’t need to have a lot of knowledge in order to pick the right glasses, though you do need to at least understand the basics so that you will know what to look for.

The appeal of wine is not just in its taste and smell, but also the visual aspect of it. the play of light on the wine, the legs and tears on the inner wall when you swirl the wine and the way that the aromas are captured within the wine glass – all of this is crucial to the overall presentation of the wine itself.

Filed under: Family, Wine, Shopping, Party Ideas, Gourmet - crunchy @ 1:03 am

Wine baskets are always a well-responded to as a gift, especially since many people don’t spend money on wine for themselves. Wine baskets are one of the best gifts for most any celebration. If you’re lucky, your gift will be opened right away and everyone can enjoy the celebration. Send a wine basket to your friend or order one for your visitors to enjoy on a slow afternoon or evening. You’ll marvel at how a fine bottle of wine or two can lift everyone’s spirits.

Any wine basket can be modified depending on how much you want to spend and who the recipients is. Ideally, the cheeses that you choose should originate from the region as the wine. A crisp white wine can be successfully paired with light cheeses, crackers and bread, and fresh fruit. Ordering by the bottle is often more affordable than buying a glass for everyone at the table. It also allows everyone to enjoy and comment on the taste and origin.

Discovering Wine Clubs

Filed under: Alcohol, Wine - crunchy @ 1:13 am

Wine clubs operate on the same basic premise as many at-home clubs. After selecting a theme, the wine club carefully selects and ships you several bottles of wine each month. Some clubs focus on different regions; each month you are treated to wine from different local wine bottlers across the country.

Others take you on a world tour, sending you wine from a different country each month. And still others focus of varieties of wines; one month you might be sent bottles of Chardonnay, while the next you are treated to Merlot. And, of course, there are select clubs which focus on sending you wines with the highest ratings.
